JAMU AND THE SOUL A HEALING RITUAL ROOTED IN ANCESTRY
Our ancestors didn’t just use herbs as medicine—they honored them as sacred allies. Each leaf, root, and flower carried not only healing properties but spiritual energy. In Indonesian tradition, plants like turmeric, betel leaf, and lemongrass weren’t just brewed into jamu for physical wellness—they were offered in rituals, used to cleanse the body and soul, and woven into prayers for protection and balance.
This deep connection to the natural world created a kind of intuitive medicine—where healing was not only about curing symptoms, but about restoring harmony between body, spirit, and earth. When we drink jamu today, or burn herbs in a ritual, we’re not just using old recipes—we're reconnecting to a lineage of wisdom that reminds us: we are nature, and nature heals.
The more we honor these traditions, the more we remember that true wellness isn’t rushed—it’s rooted.
Turmeric is most often aligned with the solar plexus chakra (Manipura).
Here’s why:
-
Color: Turmeric’s vibrant yellow hue resonates with the color of the solar plexus chakra, which is also yellow.
-
Element: The solar plexus chakra is associated with the fire element, and turmeric is known for its warming, fiery properties.
-
Power & Vitality: This chakra governs personal power, confidence, and digestion—areas turmeric supports physically (as a digestive aid and anti-inflammatory) and energetically (by enhancing inner strength and clearing energetic stagnation).
Using turmeric in teas, food, or as part of a ritual (like golden milk during a solar meditation or a turmeric paste during purification) can help bring balance and strength to the solar plexus chakra.
